Boston Herald article wrong on STATEment

July 27, 2007

I was reading some TOB material and came across this article at the Boston Herald. Here is the first 2 paragraphs:

If anything was a hallmark of Tom O’Brien’s teams it was discipline. And if there is anything his new football team at N.C. State could use, it’s a little of that discipline.
But in Raleigh, N.C., O’Brien is in a situation unlike any other he has encountered. In his previous three stops – as an assistant coach at Navy and Virginia and as the head coach at Boston College – he had the opportunity to work with some of the best student-athletes in the country. This is his first foray into coaching at a state school, but O’Brien believes his form of discipline will work.

I don’t mean to nit-pick, but UVa is a state school! It doesn’t take much research to figure that one out. It’s not like Pembroke, where someone might need to look it up. UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA. It’s in the name idiot.

Also, what’s with the backhanded remark “he had the opportunity to work with some of the best student-athletes in the country”? Why not just say ‘Now he has to deal with a bunch of morons that couldn’t get into private school like Virginia’ (note sarcasm).

I’m guessing once Steve Conroy at the BH gets wind of my post he will make a correction, just remember, you saw it here first!

UPDATE: I contacted Mr. Conroy, the writer of the article. His repsonse, “You got my point, however incorrectly I worded it.”

Lowe on Prosser

July 27, 2007

“My thoughts and prayers are with Coach Prosser’s family and Wake Forest University. I have gained a lot of respect for Coach Prosser both as a person and as a coach. It is a tremendous loss for our conference and for college basketball.” — N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe.

2 State players named All-ACC

July 27, 2007

I went back on forth on wether to post this “news” or not. But, I guess it is technically news. I just think it’s one of the most meaningless things in sports, the ACC pres-season polls and conference awards. Here goes:

Wolfpack seniors Darrell Blackman and DeMario Pressley were both named to the 2007 Preseason All-ACC football team. Blackman, a wide receiver, was selected as a specialist for returns, while Pressley, a defensive tackle, picked up a defensive spot.

Ok, let’s see what happens on the field now.

Prayers for Prosser

Skip died of an apparant heart attack while jogging this morning.

No warning. Such a shame.

NC, the ACC, and all basketball fans shake their heads today. A great guy, a real man, taken away too soon.

Here’s to you Skip.

Pack Starter Arrested for DWI

July 26, 2007

According to court records, sophmore OL  Jeraill McCuller was arrested on July 21 in Wake County. He is charged with DWI, speeding and reckless driving. His court date is scheduled for September 10. Head Football Coach Tom O’Brien will not say how the redshirt sophomore will be disciplined. McCuller is, as of now, going to start at right tackle for the Pack this season.

Tom O’Brien is going to whoop his ass!

This is especially interesting given the new alcohol awareness class at State this academic year.

Best D-1 football teams over past decade?

July 26, 2007

Just saw this over at Pack and Panther. ESPN is doing a bit, ranking all 119 teams in Division 1 football on their performance from ‘97 to this past season. Looks like NC State landed at spot #40. A bit disappointing I think. Where would we have been without Rivers? Scary isn’t it?
