You gotta see this video

October 29, 2007

Trinity University of San Antonio, a Division III school, won on the final play against Millsaps, by using 15 “laterals” to run down the field for a touchdown. This video is pretty amazing, although it’s hard to beat the last second play by Cal to beat Stanford in 1982, when Stanford’s band was marching onto the field and one of the members got knocked over. Still got to love Division III football. And the announcers started screaming just at the right moment.

Happy Homecoming!

October 27, 2007

Yeah, I’m up here in gloomy upstate NY, but listened to the game on the radio (thanks Yahoo!). I’m not going to say a lot, let’s just all enjoy the victory.

“He’s fast as hell”

October 23, 2007

“He’s fast as hell — about as fast as [UNC Guard] Tywon Lawson, but bigger. He’s definitely going to be a legit contributor, with his speed, and the heady game that he plays.”

So who is Gavin Grant talking about? And why should we be excited?
Well, those questions have pretty much the same answer.

Farnold Degand. As Sports Illustrated’s Luke Winn writes, “Degand, who is beginning his third year of college but has yet to play in an actual college game, is the X-Factor of the Pack’s ‘07-’08 season.”

There’s too many other feel good lines in this write up on the Pack by Winn…

Monday Catch-up

October 22, 2007

State wins a D-1 game
Daniel Evans throws for 335 yards and 3 TDs, first State QB since Rivers to do that.
Our O-line played musical positions, and still held up well.

Hoops!
The ACC 46th Annual Operation Basketball was Sunday afternoon.
UNC, Duke, and NC State are picked in that order in pre-season ACC rankings. Will this be the year that basketball glory returns to Tobacco Road??
Brandon Costner is a 1st Team All-ACC pick.
J.J. Hickson was 2nd in the meaningless Rookie of the Year voting.

Big Game
Next Saturday we play Top 25 Virginia at CF. Another chance to turn around our season. You know, if we win out we will get a bowl game. It all starts against UVa, because after that we have Miami, UNC, WF, and Maryland. All winnable games, even by this NC State team. Of course, reality begs me to lower my expectations, and they are. I expect to win 2 of those 5 games. Still, a few weeks ago I would have thought lower than that even!

Good thing he didn’t choose baseball

October 17, 2007

Because he’d have at least 2 strikes right? Of course I’m talking about the pride of NC State, Koren Robinson!! No? Sorry, I meant thorn. Koren posted awesome number playing WR at NC State, was picked #9 overall by Seattle in the NFL draft, then had some great years at Seattle. In just his second NFL season he had 78 receptions for 1240 yards and 5 TDs.

Somewhere during his stay at Seattle he got a DUI, I just can’t remember when. I do remember he was on probation by the NFL, and then last August this headline popped up, “Vikings’ Robinson charged with DWI, felony fleeing”. Not good.

Well, now signed by the Green Bay Packers, Koren was reinstated today by commish Roger Goodell. Word is, Koren will be suitd up Sunday, and might see some time on the field. I hope this is another Josh Hamilton like story, and not a Ricky Williams one.
