Great win on the road last night

December 28, 2007

I did not get to watch any of the game, but I listened to most of the 2nd half. A great effort by the boys. We are 8-3, which is better than many teams can say. We might not be Top 3 in the ACC as many had predicted, but in this down ACC we could still amass enough victories to get an at-large NCAA bid. Right now I’d say we have about a coins flip chance, but I do expect hat to improve as the season progresses.

Wolfpack, 8 wins and 3 losses. Let’s be proud of the fight they are showing. Thanks guys for showing us fans that you still have it in you after some horrible losses.  GO PACK!

Unbiased perspective on NCSU – Seton Hall game tonight

December 27, 2007

I always find it interesting, and quite insightful, to read what gamblers have to say about games. I found this thread talking about the NC State / Seton Hall game tonight. Apparently SH is favored in this game? I’m not surprised, but the bettors seem to be. Check out the following, for entertainment purposes only of course:

are you kidding? I don’t know how SHU is giving points to anyone, nevermind a team dominated by big men like NCSU, which is the Hall’s weakness. I know i’ve been fading NCSU a lot this year and lost on them on the road against Michigan State, but c’mon this looks ridiculous!

Looking ahead to Seton Hall

December 26, 2007

Everyone knows by know, Farnold Degand is out for the year with a torn ACL. I don’t think it’s as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be. It’s not like Atsur getting injured people! We’ll be fine.

We play Seton Hall tomorrow night (broadcast will be on ESPNU). The Pirates are riding the wave of a “thrilling, come-from-behind, 112-110 in overtime, victory” over James Madison on Saturday.

Here’s their scouting report on us:

The Wolfpack enter this matchup winners of three straight including their last victory, a 85-77 win over Cincinnati on Sunday. N.C. State was ranked #24 in the nation earlier this season when they won seven of their first eight games, but then lost their next two. Three members of the Wolfpack are averaging in double-digit scoring. Freshman J.J. Hickson is leading the team with 16.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior Gavin Grant is averaging 13.9 and and 5.4 rebounds per game. The Wolfpack are shooting 45.9% from the floor this season and limiting their opponents to only 38.9%. They also commit more turnovers than they force.

See more analysis from the SH side. It is extremely in depth, and gives us good insight into our opponent.

Glennon rated No.1 prospect in Virginia

The Roanoke Times lists NCSU commitment Mike Glennon as the top player in the commonwealth of Virginia.

State prevails over fiesty Bearcats of Cincinatti

December 23, 2007

So, I went to my first State game of the year tonight!

Even better, VIP Parking and Champions Club seats (thanks Choppy!).

I have to say the BBQ and slaw they serve is marginal. The slaw needs something in it, tasted like raw cabbage! Add some mayo, sugar, and apple cider vinegar fellas!

To the game, it was scary at times, but they pulled it out. Costner was a beast tonight. Grant and Fells played pretty good. Hickson was pretty solid. The PG position really hurt us on both ends. We really struggled to get the ball successfully up the court against the press.

All in all, our offense is pretty good (not very good mind you). Our half court defense, needs A LOT OF WORK. Too many stiff legs and lazy arms when it gets busy in the lane. Perimeter defense is good. Just need some work inside the arc.
