Brandon Costner to transfer?

January 29, 2008

…maybe. The rumor has started around campus. What is it based on? I don’t know yet. I’m working on getting better context and background, will update when I can confirm rumor as something at least somewhat factual.

UPDATE: Am getting closer to confirming validity of rumor and reliability of source. At least one source I’ve spoken with is in a class with Costner and overheard transfer talk. Keep in mind, we all said lots of things in college that we didn’t sincerely mean. Like, I’m never going to drink again, or I’m not looking to date anyone right now. Which means, I drank too much last night and my girlfriend just dumped me. In the same light, I’m going to transfer means I am sucking at basketball this year. All THAT said, I think we all believe there is some truth to this. More to come…

Update: Well, this makes sense if the Gavin Grant rumors are true.  I’ve heard the GG rumor from enough sources to make me think there is some truth to it. for those of you who don’t know, GG is rumored to have slept with Costner’s girlfriend.

From last to Sixth

January 26, 2008

I was not able to watch the game today, actually the only ACC game on today up here is UNC v. Maryland, women’s  :o |

I digress. State made an uncharacteristic run to end the first half and establish a nominal lead at halftime. In true State fashion they relinquish the lead and usher us fans to another thrilling ending. And this one was in our favor. (Payback for the New Orleans finale?)

A few things stand out as I look at the box score.

1) Hickson is $$$   5-5 FG and 2-2 FT, add 10 boards and a game sealing block

2) Javi should only try and get fouled instead of actually taking a shot.

3) What happened to Brandon Costner? 0 points & 3 fouls?

At the end of the day, we move from 1-3 and tied for last place in the ACC to a respectable tie for 6th (barring a VT upset of BC today). Not bad considering we’ve played at UNC and at Clemson, 2 of our toughest games on the schedule. We MUST win games versus the lower half of the conference though. That includes 2 vs Wake Forest, and single games versus VT, Maryland, and FSU again.

ACC talk on Rivals.com
RPI watch: The conference rating continues to hold strong at No. 1, and for the first time in several weeks every team is ranked in the top 100.

Who’s hot: Courtney Fells has made 28-of-47 shots (59.5 percent) from the field and 13-of-24 3-pointers (54.2 percent) in his past four games.
Forbes Most Valuable College Basketball Programs

NC State’s basketball program, ranked 13th, is worth $13.6 million. With expenses of only $3.1 million, the lowest of any team on our list, the NC State Wolfpack earned a profit of $7.9 million last season.

A look into Harrison Beck’s mind

January 24, 2008

NCSU QB Harrison Beck is a strange cat.

When I was young, I used to throw it at fences or trees; I would throw the ball and go run after it to get it and then throw it again; repeat.

Countdown to Football

I just read this, not sure how many people are aware.

NC STATE plays at South Carolina on Thursday night August 28. You know what that means, yes, it will be on ESPN.

Politics, Basketball, it’s all the same

January 23, 2008

Obama and Huckbee win Iowa. Guilianni hasn’t even shown up on the radar yet. Whereas many would say Hillary, McCain, and Romney are in prime position and have the iconic momentum.

NC State just won their Iowa by beating Miami in overtime last Saturday night. And just like the primaries, they need to build on that victory to keep the momentum that is needed to carry them to the general election if you will, the NCAA Tourney.

State has won 10 straight versus Georgia Tech in Raleigh, but they direly need to make that 11. On our side, the Pack rank fourth in the ACC in field-goal percentage defense (39.3 percent). That will be huge against a likewise struggling (minus the defeat of UNC) team with inexperience at the point guard position.

My humble and immaterial opinion is that this game will be decided in the paint. I call this a coin flip. Unless a perimeter player gets hot, I foresee one of those games where you don’t answer the phone and rock nervously back and forth for 2 hours until eventually your head is left in your hands during the last 2 minutes.

Prediction: State wins this one 76-72, in large part to the great home fans at the RBC.
