Who’s Laughing Now?

January 15, 2008

Oh yeah, Herb didn’t really laugh, or smile, or yell, or beat Carolina…

But, he does have Arizona State back in The AP Top 25 for the first time since 1995.

Now, it isn’t time to say good riddance, and at the same token not time to say “Wish you were here”.  It is perhaps time to acknowledge the man as someone who can pick up a broken program and turn it into a respectable program, once again. You can’t deny his ability to take a program up a notch. Maybe not 3-4 notches, but a notch or two, definitely.

I always liked Herb. I hope the best for him wherever he is and wherever he goes.

Pre-season All whatever lists

October 12, 2007

Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated:
- Top 15 Freshman: 15. J.J. Hickson. Hickson was Sidney Lowe’s first major recruiting victory in Raleigh, and the five-star big man from Marietta, Ga., should be an excellent fit in N.C. State’s frontcourt alongside Ben McCauley and Brandon Costner. Whereas Coster and McCauley are more versatile big men who often float out on the perimeter, Hickson is a fierce low-post scorer and relentless rebounder.
- Top 15 Frontcourts: 4. Brandon Costner , Ben McCauley, J.J. Hickson, Gavin Grant. During last season’s ACC tournament, in which the Wolfpack made a miraculous run to the title game as a No. 10 seed, Costner and McCauley showed the potential to be a dominant front line. The addition of Hickson, a five-star forward from Georgia who can take care of the dirty work in the paint, only makes NC State an even better darkhorse pick in the ACC.

Mike DeCourcy :
- Top Power Forwards: 5. Brandon Costner, N.C. State. Costner hit 61 3-pointers and gathered 264 rebounds. …Costner might be the most skilled big man in college basketball. He passes, handles, shoots and plays strong along the baseline.

Dickie V:
- Preseason Top 40: 35. NC State: Sidney Lowe will build something special in Raleigh. They will miss Mr. Atsur but you can expect big things from Brandon Costner.
- All-Rolls Royce, Fifth Team: Brandon Costner, Costner should have a big season and could be dancing with the Wolfpack!

Collegehoops.net
- 3rd team AA: Brandon Costner
- #1 frontcourt in the NATION!
