Washington Slime (Updated @ 1500hrs)

February 9, 2008

I read a pretty ridiculous and biased post this morning on the Washington Times web site. My views are biased, but they are on a site that makes notice of any bias I might show. You would assume an article under the jurisdiction of “Washington Times” would be neutral. Here is that article in it’s entirety (fair and balanced!):

It’s always amusing to me how much ACC football coaches try to hype their league into something far, far greater than it is.

Look at all those bowl teams! Look at all those programs who have contended for division titles! Anybody can beat anybody! Blah, blah, blah. (more…)

Why nothing on the victory over WF?

February 4, 2008

Well, as I live in NY, I could not listen to or watch the game. Even if it had, I had immutable plans with my wife from 10:30am – 3:00pm.

Nonetheless, one person has spoken up saying: “Either step it up, wrap it up or turn it over to someone else. Not to hurt anyone’s feelings but if you don’t have time for it or don’t care about it or either, just don’t do it.” -dj9686

Well DJ, thanks for judging me for not writing about a game I could not watch or listen to due to geographic limitation and marital obligation. Would you rather me pontificate based on nothing but a box score and articles that you can go and read yourself? You have quite a tainted worldview if you feel justified in castigating me on something I pay for with my money, time, and attention with no reward or compensation in result.

A few things feel in my lap this Monday afternoon:

NCSU Student Section cheer sheets:
-James Johnson is WF’s leading scorer and we will boo him all game long.
-James Johnson uses Karate to train for basketball. After every missed free throw or shot by him yell, “HI-YA!!”
-Harvey Hale’s nickname is H2. When he misses a shot yell, “H-2-Oooooo!!”
-When the Deacons are on offense, we need to be as loud as possible. Kick the boards, yell; make it hard to hear.
-Should we win, DO NOT rush the court. Fans rush the court in upsets. We should EXPECT to beat every team we play. (from Old Gold Blog)

And here is an insightful look into the Flex offense often run by State.

Yahoo! gets this one right, not ESPN

December 15, 2007

So, I just woke up. Whereas when I was a child, my dad and I would pour through the News & Observer on Saturday mornings (Sports section, used cars, yard sales, the funnies, you know, back when they were actually funny!), alas, I am now part of the age of the Internet. So, I now click on my bookmarks in my Firefox toolbar on Saturday mornings.

Well, after watching the App State game last night (and what a terrific game it was!) I headed to my morning paper to see what they had to say. First I head to ESPN…

The Wolfpack are not worthy

December 11, 2007

Not worthy of my time anyways. Nor should they be of yours.

Maybe it’s because I sit at my computer all day working, but I’d rather spend time playing with my dog, cooking for my wife, playing poker with the guys, watching something interesting on cable television, many things I’d rather do than cover this team at this time. I encourage you to do the same! Do something with you family instead of read NCSU blogs. Don’t have a family? Then you need to get out! How else will you have a family someday?

Don’t check back here before the next State game, I promise you I won’t be posting anything!! Hope you all have a fine week.

I’ve never heard of “Wolfpack crimson”

December 4, 2007

But apparently this dude has. Or maybe he’s seen it? Or maybe he should not be reporting on collge basketball? On ESPN.com, Kyle Whelliston writes:

The lower seating bowl, alive with color, stood two-thirds red and one-third Duke blue. But it wasn’t the crimson of the NC State Wolfpack. No, the 11,000-strong crowd was dominated by Wildcat faithful.

Wow, I had no idea our colors involved crimson! This guy is a reporter in NC, there’s no excuse for this ignorance.

Wolfpack back in Top 25 / ACC – B10 Challenge

November 27, 2007

NC State is back in at number 24 in the latest AP Poll. Villanova has dropped out.

Yet, in the USA Today / ESPN poll, Villanova merely dropped from #19 to #21, and State remains unranked?!?! Even IF they watched the game and judge on that, wouldn’t one think both teams are equal? The score was 68-67 before the perhaps controversial foul at the end.

How big is the game Wednesday night gonna be?? #24 NCSU at #10 Michigan State! Spotlight game.

I implore everyone, pull for every ACC team in the Challenge. Come tourney time, these wins will matter. Yes, even pull for Carolina (or at least be impartial). For Carolina to lose would severely tarnish the image of the ACC. Trust me, we have much much more to gain from Carolina winning than losing. Also be pulling for Duke as the host #20 Wisconsin.

Wins: WF over Iowa (Monday), Clemson over Purdue, Virginia over NW, Duke over Wisconsin, BC over Michigan

Losses: Indiana over GT, Minnesota over FSU

Toss ups: NCSU – MSU, UNC – Ohio St, VT – Penn St., Illinois – Maryland

If the sure wins and losses hold true, we need 2 more wins to claim victory as a conference from the toss up games. Of course we are looking for State to upset MSU, but also look for Maryland to challenge Illinois. VT will probably lose to Penn State. If Maryland loses, we need UNC to win.

TUESDAY UPDATE: WF beat Iowa. VT will beat Penn State. That gives us a 6-2 edge on paper. Ballgame for the ACC. A Wolfpack win will be icing. Actually, icing, candles, party hats, favors, napkins, etc.
